My books

Goromomo gorolo – The Narration of the Siberian Evenk People  (Citadela 1996)

Evenk stories originated from the region around the rivers Podkamenna and Nizni Tunguzka, where the last nomads are living in taiga. I was doing my ethnographical researches (1991 – 1994) in the Evenk Autonomous Okrug. I tried to capture the difficult lifestyle of the nomads, how they are fighting against oil extraction and the consumer attitudes of the Western society that is coming to their region…

Nenets stories in the first part of the book originated on the Taymir peninsula, “Republic of Nenets“, where I stayed for two months in summer 1995. The second part of this book was inspired by stories of Nenets writer Nenyang (Mosquito). “Yamtana“ is a word in the Nenets language, it means a journey from one nomad camp to another.
